CBCGB HR Manager

The Chinese Bible Church of Greater Boston (CBCGB) is seeking a qualified HR Manager.

Position Summary

The Human Resources (HR) Manager for the Chinese Bible Church of Greater Boston (CBCGB) assists church leadership in planning, developing, and updating policies and procedures related to Human Resource. The HR Manager advises church leadership on CBCGB Personnel and Benefits Policy to ensure legal compliance of federal and state laws such as employment, labor, health and other benefits. The HR Manager supports the HR committee at CBCGB and the Board of Elders (BoE) to execute these tasks.

 

Job Responsibilities  
  • Maintain knowledge of best practices and regulatory changes in human resources, recruitment, and employment law; apply this knowledge to communicate changes in policies, practices, and resources to BoE:

  • Assist BoE in periodic reviews and updates of the CBCGB Personnel and Benefits Policy. 

  • Recommend training resources for CBCGB Staff to ensure up-to-date knowledge on HR laws and practices.

  • Support on-boarding and off-boarding administrative duties: 

  • Assist search committees in areas such as internal and external job postings, vacancy announcements, and initial screening for eligibility.

  • Conduct research and analysis of salary for new employees.

  • Conduct research and analysis of relocation expenses for new employees.

  • Provide administrative support on offer letters, background checks, I-9 documentation for Homeland Security, and other related areas.

  • Provide support of new employee on-boarding.

  • Provide support to outside attorneys on visa documentation.

  • Provide support and implementation of employment separation procedures.

  • Perform other HR-related duties within the abilities of the HR Manager.

 

Supervision

This position reports to the chair of the BoE or an elder designated by the BoE chair. When necessary, the HR manager will work directly with, and be responsible to, individual elders or deacons for special task assignments.

 

Hours

The hours for this position are 20-25 hours per week. Additional hours, and corresponding compensation for those hours, can be granted per review by the BoE Chair. 

 

Qualifications

 As a member of the staff and a ministry leader, the Human Resources manager must be a born-again Christian in an active relationship with Jesus Christ. They must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Other job-specific qualifications include:

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality on all professional and personnel matters.

  • Ability to prioritize the church and employees’ wellbeing and interests.

  • At least one year of experience with, and knowledge of, human resource practices and protocols.

  • Knowledge of best practices and applicable federal and state laws on labor and benefit regulations.

  • Experience in Microsoft Office software, particularly Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Ability to work with BoE, BoD (Board of Deacons), Pastoral Staff, Office Staff and outside contractors.

  • Proficient communication skills in both English and Chinese.

  • Ability to effectively work with people both in and outside of CBCGB.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
